Your First Day in Saigon: An Easy Arrival Plan
Your first day in Ho Chi Minh City does not need to be your busiest. A comfortable arrival, one manageable outing, and a good meal are plenty. This is our suggested flexible plan for visitors staying in the city centre; adjust it to your flight, accommodation, and energy level.
Before you fly: make the handover simple
Save your accommodation's full address, booking confirmation, and contact number offline. If you arrange a private pickup, confirm the meeting point, flight number, luggage allowance, and how to contact the driver if you cannot find each other.
Ask your accommodation when your room will be ready. An early landing does not automatically mean early check-in. Decide whether you would prefer to request early access, leave your bags, or book the preceding night for an especially early arrival.
After arrival: leave room to settle in
Keep the first part of your day free of prepaid activities. Airport formalities, baggage collection, and the journey to your accommodation can vary. A driver meeting you after arrivals is a different service from assistance inside the airport; confirm exactly what you have booked.
VietBuddy can help arrange private transportation. If you are considering airport fast track, check the service scope and availability separately.
Choose one small city outing
For a first introduction, consider the Central Post Office and a short walk around Đồng Khởi, with the Opera House as another possible stop. Vietnam Tourism identifies these as central landmarks. Check access before setting out; seeing a building from outside and visiting its interior are different plans. Source: Vietnam Tourism's Ho Chi Minh City guide.
Our suggestion: choose one landmark and one café rather than trying to cover the whole area. Agree on a comfortable walking distance, and keep a ride back as an option.
Make dinner an easy decision
Pick somewhere near your accommodation or arrange to go with a local buddy. Share your food preferences, dietary needs, and budget before choosing a venue. There is no need to commit to a long tasting itinerary after a long flight.
If you arrive late, move the sightseeing to tomorrow. Dinner and sleep still count as a successful first day.
